After winning promotion to the League in 2002, Boston's first meeting with Swindon came in October 2003, when an experimental Town side travelled to York Street for a LDV Vans Trophy match, losing 2-1 to a last minute Adebayo Akinfenwa goal. Two years later, the sides met again in the FA Cup - Charlie Comyn-Platt rescuing a draw for the Town with a late goal - only for loan keeper Tom Heaton to be sent off in the replay. Youngster Matt Bulman came on to make his only senior appearance for Swindon - and though he saved a penalty with his first touch, he was helpless to prevent a 4-1 drubbing.
The Town finally broke their duck against Boston in 2007 - after another late goal rescued a draw for the Pilgrims earlier in the season in the clubs' first league encounter, goals from Christian Roberts, Michael Pook and a first goal for Blair Sturrock sealed a 3-1 win in the return match in Lincolnshire.
