The Town's first meeting with Darlington came in the Third Round of FA Cup competition of 1911, as Swindon strolled past the Quakers 3-0, on a cup run that took them to the semi-finals. It was 51 years before the club's next met - a hat-trick from Jack Smith helping the Town to a 4-0 victory in the League Cup - and four years later, the first league meeting between the clubs also ended in a 4-0 win for the Town.
Darlington's biggest win against the Town came in the Rumbelows Cup Second Round in 1990, when - in a match marred by a horrific tackle by Quakers midfielder Gary Gill that broke Dave Bennett's leg - the Fourth Division side shocked Second Division Swindon by beating them 3-0 at Feethams. The Town gained revenge two weeks later in the second leg, when Shaun Close's first goal helped them to a 4-0 win on the night, and a 4-3 victory on aggregate.
