Bruce WALKER | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Walker was spotted by a Town scout playing for Hungerford Town at the age of 15, even though the scout had originally been watching someone else! Walker joined Swindon after a successful trial spell, and he was a member of the youth team who reached the FA Youth Cup final in 1964. After that final, twenty months elapsed before Walker made his league debut, in a 2-2 draw at Grimsby on December 27th, 1965. It was yet another ten months before his home debut - but he celebrated with a goal in a 4-0 win over Swansea Town, on October 22, 1966. Although never a regular in the side, Walker's main achievement for the club came in a FA Cup Fifth Round replay versus First Division Nottingham Forest in March 1967, where he scored a cracking 90th minute equaliser to send the tie to a second replay. Walker was only in the side for that game because regular left winger, new signing Bobby Jones was cup-tied. Just a year later, Walker was on his way, signing for Bradford City. PLAYING RECORD:
