Dom THOMPSON

One of many new faces in Town’s line up for the televised win over Ipswich in January, Brentford loanee left back Thompson was perhaps the most impressive in a strong field. Marauding down the left, he linked up excellently with Scott Twine, Matt Smith and Diallang Jaiyesimi, leaving Town fans certain that they’d made an excellent signing. Sadly, like so many others during the 2020/21 season, he regressed to the general level of the team before too long as he got used to the side.

Thompson missed only one Town league game over the rest of the season, and provided four assists within that period, second only to Jack Payne in the whole squad, and yet it felt like he hadn’t quite performed to his potential in a Town shirt. A seemingly poor relationship with manager John Sheridan probably didn’t help, and it was notable that Thompson was one of the players hooked when Sheridan made five substitutions at once against Gillingham and four against Blackpool.

Thompson returned to Brentford at the end of the season when his loan spell expired.
