Brad SMITH

An Australian left wing-back who had already made his first team debut and played against Manchester City and Chelsea before joining Town on loan from Liverpool for the 2014/15 season - Smith went straight into the first team, starting ten consecutive games starting with Town’s win over Scunthorpe United on the opening day. He was also called up to the Australian national squad during his loan spell, making his international debut against Belgium - and he went on to make a total four international appearances during his short stay at the County Ground.

Town were then caught in the crossfire of a contract dispute between the player and his parent club, with Liverpool recalling Smith in October, seemingly as punishment for not agreeing a new deal at Anfield. Town brought Amari’i Bell into the left wing back spot in Smith’s place, and Smith eventually signed a new deal at Liverpool which would lead to him being sold for a stunningly high fee to Bournemouth that seemed totally illogical based on his spell at the County Ground - an initial £3 million that could have risen as high as £6 million, depending on clauses. He went on to play in the MLS for Seattle Sounders.
