Fred Ford signed Porter from Bridgwater Town for £1,500 in November 1969, which later increased to £2,500 as part of an appearance-based deal. He didn't make his league debut until almost a year later - the Town going down 1-0 at Norwich on October 21st, 1970. Porter became a first team regular for the rest of that season, scoring four goals. His last came in a 1-1 draw with Birmingham - Porter's opener being cancelled out by a 16 year old Trevor Francis! When Ford left the club at the end of the season, Porter was only utilised as a squad player - manager Les Allen unsuccessfully tried to convert him into a defensive role. Porter's league career came to an end after a game at West Bromwich Albion, when he suffered a pelvic injury, which resulted in a complex operation to add a metal plate. PLAYING RECORD:
