Willie PENMAN

A gutsy inside-forward, and the provider of many Town goals, Penman was signed from Newcastle in 1966 for £10,000. He made his debut in a 3-1 defeat at Q.P.R. that season, and went on to score seventeen goals in the two seasons that followed.

By the start of the 1968/1969 season, Penman was mainly used as a squad player. He made just nineteen appearances, six from the subs bench. Penman was also the substitute in the League Cup Final win over Arsenal, replacing John Smith ten minutes before the end of normal time.

As he became frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunties, he made just one league appearance the following season, and he left the club to join Walsall.
