A lively forward, Noble signed from Newcastle for £8,000 in January 1968, making his debut as a substitute in a 3-0 win over Walsall at the beginning of February. It was the following season before Noble really shone, scoring sixteen league goals - but his main contribution was to the successful League Cup campaign. He played in every match en route to the Final, scoring four goals, including the extra time winner in the semi-final replay versus Burnley. In 1969/1970, he again finished as the club's top scorer, with twelve goals - and he top-scored again in 1971/1972, with fourteen. He left the club at the end of the 1972/1973 season, when Burnley paid £40,000 for his services - then played him as a full back! They eventually moved him up into midfield, and he became their top scorer for three of the following four seasons. PLAYING RECORD:
