Sid NELSON | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A throwback defender who didn’t mind putting his head where it hurts, Nelson was the kind of centre back common in English football thirty years previous - even down to being named “Sidney Raymond Kenneth”. Born in Lewisham, Nelson was at Millwall for fifteen years, from the age of 8 to the age of 23, and joined Town on loan from the Lions in August 2018 for the first half of the 2018/19 season. Unsurprisingly, a defender with his wholehearted approach quickly became a favourite with the Town faithful. After a couple of early season cup games, he made his league debut away at Crawley Town in the 2-2 draw in late August, partnering Olly Lancashire in a game Town led before going down to 9 men and failing to hang on to the three points. After that, Nelson was ever present in the league, playing 20 times before being injured in the New Year’s Day game against Exeter City. With Nelson’s loan expiring, Town were keen to extend his stay for the remainder of the season, but he instead joined League Two rivals Tranmere, initially on loan before signing a permanent deal at Prenton Park that summer.
