Lilian NALIS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A veteran midfielder, signed on a one year deal in the 2008/09 close season after a short trial spell, despite a strong late interest from another League One side, Nalis made his debut on the opening day of the season, in a 3-1 victory over Tranmere at the County Ground. Brought in to bring composure and experience to the Town's midfield, Nalis undoubtedly did that, but at times he seemed to struggle with the pace and stamina required for League One football, and he himself admitted that his performances were not as good as he expected. After being dropped to the bench in October, the Town won two on the bounce - and from that point, he spent the rest of the season in and out of the team - starting just two games in November, two in December, one in January, and two in March. Finally, Nalis was made captain for the final match of the season - a 2-2 draw at Peterborough - having previously decided to retire and move back to his native France at the end of the season.
