Craig MASKELL | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Maskell first joined Swindon on loan during the 1986/1987 season. He never actually made an appearance in the first team, though he was a prolific goalscorer for the reserves. Over five years later, Glenn Hoddle brought Maskell to the County Ground on a permanent basis from Reading, in deal worth £250,000 which involved Tom Jones moving in the opposite direction. He made his debut on the opening day of the 1992/1993 season, in a 1-0 win over Sunderland on 15th August. Despite sometimes appearing lazy, Maskell was a great finisher - and he scored 22 goals in his 36 appearances for the Town in the 1992/1993 promotion season - including a magnificent goal at Wembley to put Town 2-0 up versus Leicester in the play-off final. He wasn't really given a chance in the Premier, the arrival of Jan Fjørtoft, Andy Mutch and Keith Scott limiting his first team opportunities. Despite this, he still scored three goals in his eight starts. He left the club in February, returning to former club Southampton for a £250,000 fee. PLAYING RECORD:
