Kyle KNOYLE | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Right back Knoyle joined Town after being released by West Ham ahead of the 2017/18 season. Whilst at the Hammers, Knoyle did not make a league appearance for his home town club, but did appear in a Europa League qualifying tie against Astra Giurgiu of Romania in a heavily weakened West Ham side. With Ben Purkiss as the established senior right back, Knoyle’s Town career began with a lot of unused substitute roles and occasional run outs in the EFL Trophy - he made his Town debut against Wycombe in the competition at the end of October, but had to wait until 30th December for his first league start in a 1-0 win over Notts County. In the second half of the season, he established himself as a first team player as Town finished ninth under new manager Phil Brown. Come the summer, Town exercised a contract extension clause to extend Knoyle’s stay for the 2018/19 season. By now established as the starting right back, Knoyle’s second season in Town colours showed significant progress: he started 43 games and appeared as a substitute in a further five, winning the club’s player of the year award. Knoyle was offered a new contract by Town, but surprisingly turned it down in favour of a sideways move to Cambridge United. PLAYING RECORD:
