Ben JOYCE | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A young striker who joined the club from Plymouth in the close season of 2007/08, Joyce signed a professional contract with Swindon in February 2008, one of nine youth teamers who were offered deals. Of these, Joyce was one of only two that made their league debuts before the season's end - when he came on for the last twenty minutes of a 6-0 drubbing of Port Vale in April, Joyce scoring the sixth goal in injury time. Joyce was to make just one more appearance for the Town the following season, when caretaker boss Dave Byrne - Joyce's former youth team boss - surprisingly called him up to the first team squad for a derby at Bristol Rovers in November, with top scorer Simon Cox suspended. With Byrne's plan not working, and the Town 1-0 down, Byrne boldly made the decision to make changes just past the half-hour mark, replacing Joyce with Jon-Paul McGovern. At the end of the season, he was released. PLAYING RECORD:
