George HUNT

Originally a winger, Hunt was a Swindon-born lad who played for Ferndale Athletic before the war, when he joined the Royal Artillery.

After scoring seven goals for the reserve team in 1946/1947, Hunt signed professional forms for the Town in January 1947. By the time he made his debut in a game at Exeter in September 1948, he had been successfully converted to a right-back role.

He stayed at the club for ten seasons, before retiring from the playing staff at the beginning of the 1957/1958 season. Hunt then moved into a coaching position, after making nearly 330 appearances for the club.
