Ian HERRING

Known as Spud, Herring made his debut as a substitute, coming on in stoppage time in the last game of the 2001/2002 season versus Wycombe, whilst he was still a second year youth player.

During the following season, Herring was loaned out to a few non-league sides, and when he returned, he was told he would be released at the end of his youth contract. Despite this, a series of injuries to first team players saw him gain a place in the first team squad - firstly as a substitute, and then in the first team itself - making his full debut at right wing back, in a 1-0 win at Crewe on 19th April 2003.

His performances in the side earned him a reprieve from Andy King, and Herring signed a six month contract at the end of the season. Despite this, Herring never made enough of an impression to earn an extension, and he was allowed to leave the club.
