Jimmy GILLIGAN

Signed from Grimsby Town on the eve of Swindon’s second successive promotion season, Gilligan’s time of the club did not last long after finding it hard to displace Jimmy Quinn, Steve White & Dave Bamber from first team places. The forward scored his first goal for the club at the County Ground in a 2-0 win against Rotherham United, his next one came in the thrilling 4-3 away win at Port Vale, Gilligan’s strike was the all important fourth. November was a great month for the player as he bagged four goals in the fixtures involving York City, Bristol Rovers, Farnborough Town and Bury. But with first team opportunities lacking, Gilligan went on loan to Newport County, and in March 1987 he left Swindon for good when he was sold to Lincoln City.
