Bob EDWARDS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Edwards signed for the Town from Chelsea shortly before the 1955/1956 season, and made his debut on the opening day, scoring a goal in the 2-1 defeat at Southampton on 20th August 1955. A lethal inside-forward, he slotted into the Town side straight away, and followed his opening day goal with three goals in the next four games. He was the club's top scorer the following season, his goals the only highlight of a season which saw the Town finish second from bottom in Division Three (South). Over the next two years, more goals from Edwards helped the Town rise to more respectable tables, and he again top-scored for the club in the 1958/1959 season, before Norwich City came in to sign him at the end of that season, which also saw fellow goalscorer John Richards leave for a combined fee of £6,000.
