Peter COYNE

Goalscoring midfielder who was plucked from non-league Hyde United by Lou Macari, just before he accepted a job at the Post Office!

As a schoolboy international, Coyne scored two hat-tricks for England versus France and West Germany in 1974 - goals which earned him an apprenticeship at Manchester United, where he made his league debut, before falling into the non-league.

Coyne was the club's second highest scorer in 1984/85, and he also scored many vital goals in the promotion seasons of 1985/86 and 1986/1987, and he was always likely to pop up with a goal during a giant-killing cup run!
