Lee CAMP

After two thirds of a season with a succession of rookie goalkeepers of varying quality, the vastly experienced Camp was brought in as a free agent in March 2021 with the hope of helping Town avoid relegation. Having made more than 500 appearances in his career, mostly at Championship level and played internationally for Northern Ireland, Camp’s pedigree was undoubted despite his advancing years.

He immediately kept two clean sheets in wins over Fleetwood and Bristol Rovers, at a stroke doubling the amount Town had kept all season. The main improvement looked to be that he communicated with and organised the defence in a way that previous keepers had not. Camp was another player whose best work was done in his first few games unfortunately, and he didn’t keep another clean sheet across the final nine games as Town’s threatened great escape petered out almost immediately.

Having signed only a short-term contract where he travelled down from his base in the north of England for games and not training, he was not offered a new contract at the end of the season and departed the club having done a respectable job in difficult circumstances.
